I’ve been a combination of burnt out and uninspired and busy with work which means I have done next to no personal sewing for a distressingly long time. I did, however, teach myself to knit a few months ago after twenty years of failing and months of yearning for Audrey Horne’s red jumper (but in black.) I haven’t finished said jumper, but it is mostly done!
One thing I have, however, completed is reupholstering this chair I use in my bedroom! I picked this up off eBay in the depths of the first covid lockdown with every intention of reupholstering it. Four years, a whole new bedroom later and this totally period correct dinosauria linen, the chair is finally has a whole new life!

This Edwardian corner chair was in sad state. The base webbing was rotten and falling apart, and when I took it apart I very much regretted having this chair sitting as was in my personal space for so long so filled with dust and filth and rotten canvas.
Cotton and linen upholstery herringbone tape and a sturdy cavalry twill from my stash make up the base. The chair was padded with hair canvas and layers of silk-cotton padding from my stash sandwiched with more twill. Although this was a long overdue project, it was only half consciously planned so a lot of improv in terms of ‘proper’ materials happened.
To trim, all that I had to hand that felt appropriate was this vintage French fringe. It isn’t really right for a chair but turned out well as the body of the chair is pockmarked with its history of shoddy reupholsters over the years. The end result is ridiculous and kitschy and I love it.

Most importantly I have enough fabric and trims left to make a few cushions to match.

I remember the first time playing the game I really got caught up with how expressive each character was - Really, looking back I should've come back to this game way sooner for expression sheet practice when I took myself back to basics!
I do wish looking up Pit was a little more sfw because yeesh 💀

Okay, update time: So yesterday I finished all of the art for the Splatoon intro. Having a short break today before I get started on the third and final one for FNAF: Fazbear Collection.
I might have forgotten to update earlier this week...admittedly, I've had a really rough week and been through some IRL stuff. Might take it easy for a bit. I'll be alright though.

When I was regathering my long-neglected research for my Helga Sinclair ribbon corset, I rediscovered this gorgeous extant example in the V&A from 1895. Unlike most extant examples I've come across, this one doesn't feature overlapping ribbons. This suggests that it was made for a particularly slim woman who needed very little support and for particular summertime breathability (supported by the garment waist measuring 19", suggesting a laced waist of 22-24".)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To me, long-since trapped in The Locked Tomb, the ribcage-like appearance was inescapable. Wouldn't you know it, I have a Crown Prince Kiriona Gaia costume that I started a year ago that was needing a little something something to pull the design together and to help motivate me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pattern was adapted from my Helga ribbon corset, allowing for 24mm wide ribbon to meet at the sides and spread evenly in a ribcage like fashion at the front panel.
This time I used a beautiful shell-coloured silk ribbon. The ribbon is so beautifully soft, that it was a nightmare to work with. I do not recommend it for something that needs quite so much working as it marked with so much as a hard look! I am fairly certain that the V&A example the ribbon is self-mounted, so I again mounted my main ribbon, this time on a white cottong taffeta ribbon. If i slipped with my mounting or the ribbon twisted or buckled, i thought the white would be a suitably stark and skeletal contrast to the main silk ribbon.
As I am perhaps a little more fleshy than the lady who owned the original 1895 example, I cheated and also added a base layer of nude tulle to help smooth out the laced-up silhouette.

The overall construction process was the same as Helga: quilted the ribbon panels across the boned panels before covering and sandwiching them, and inserting the bones from the side to allow for for hem stitching.
To finish, another ivory powder-coated busk and stitched over eyelets for security.

Ethel Cains new album gets a 10/10 from me.
I’ve been trying to create my own music and when recording some in the fall I included sounds of bugs and birds chirping, a clock, whistling of a printer, semi trucks..
I really loved and appreciated her attentiveness to sound and detail. Her work I feel is groundbreaking in her exploration and experimenting of sounds.
As someone who aspires to write and hopefully complete a few songs she gives me confidence.
The entire listen to the album was a spiritual experience, I feel like I was in the astroprojective plane Viktor was in, my cats were seeing ghosts, I was engulfed by the sounds. Her lyrics again were top tier poetry.
Anyways those are some of my thoughts, just grazing the surface.
